Jarashia Jordon

One of the premises of Wolfson Children’s Hospital is caring for children and their families. In the case of Jarashia, the doctors and nurses did more than save her life, they helped her mother with the decision to keep her daughter.

Jarashia was born at Shands Jacksonville just two pounds 2.5 ounces, and kidney faillure at birth and immediately transferred to Wolfson Children’s Hospital. After a three month NICU stay, Jarashia start dialysis when she was 7 months. At just two, Jarashia was diagnose with liver cancer.

This was particularly challenging for Katriace, Jarisha’s mom, and she began to question if she would be able to care for her daughter.

Fortunately Katriace had strong support from her mother, her sister and the staff at Wolfson Children’s Hospital.

Katrice recalls how frightening it was to see her daughter with so many tubes keeping her alive. Fortunately the doctors and nurses were there to comfort her, give her confidence and hope, and educate her on Jarashia’s treatment.

Today Katrice is happy with her decision to keep her daughter. And Jarisaha? After both a liver and kidney transplant, she is a growing happy three year old.
