Jimmy Farley

Jimmy was born in West Virginia, where his doctors attempted to treat him for a number of symptoms. Jimmy’s original doctors predicted that he would not live to see the age of 4 and not walk or speak. While Jimmy did have his challenges, he would prove them wrong.
Understanding the difficult nature of treating children, Jimmy’s doctors stressed the need to move to a hospital that focused on children. Particularly one partnered with a clinic to provide OT, PT and speech therapy.
So Jimmy’s family packed up and moved to Jacksonville. And to Wolfson Children’s Hospital.
In the beginning, Jimmy and his family had to spend the first 9 ½ months driving back-and-forth to Jacksonville for care, more than 700 miles. The hospital arranged for a hotel room and a shuttle for his family during their stay. Today, through the efforts of the Wolfson Children’s Hospital, the Ronald McDonald House now provides a place for families to stay while their children are cared for.
Jimmy has made amazing strides. Being profoundly deaf, Jimmy was a candidate for cochlear implants, a surgery he had at Wolfson Children’s Hospital. Thanks to his treatment, Jimmy has learned to walk and live like a normal 12-year-old.
There is still no official diagnosis. Jimmy’s doctors and nurses call him their little miracle. They are also working very hard researching Jimmy’s illness in the hopes of finding a diagnosis. Meanwhile Jimmy’s family is thankful for the help Wolfson Children’s Hospital has provided. Their child who was said would not live past 4, is alive and happy at 12.
