Maddex Hart

Maddex and his twin sister were born at 23 weeks. The survival rate at that age is 10%. Maddex’s sister, Mariah, did not make it. At 1lb 9oz, Maddex had a lot of challenges ahead. It was a scary and unknown path.
Maddex’s father, Nathaniel, remembers the great staff and doctors at Wolfson Children’s Hospital and how they helped them make it through day-by-day trials of Maddex’s six month NICU stay, 4 major surgeries and various other procedures.
The staff made sure to keep his family connected. Not just with updates, but by explaining what was happening daily and what needed to be addressed or focused on at any given time. They went out of their way to explain possible options and scenarios to all the issues that Maddex faced. They made the family a part of the medical team. Maddex is now over 18 lbs. He has been weaned off all supplemental oxygen, apnea monitors and medications just in time for his 1st birthday. Maddex has surpassed all original expectations and continues to amaze his family and doctors daily.
People often ask Maddex’s Mom how they made it through the trying times. She replies simply by saying: remaining positive, keeping our faith and believing in Wolfson Children’s Hospital. To see him smile and laugh, the hard part is all just a memory. Today he has a promising future ahead of him thanks to Wolfson’s. His parents know that without the doctors, nurses, therapists and countless others staffed by Wolfson Children’s Hospital that would not have been possible. For that they will always be eternally grateful.
