Matthew Marshall

At six months old Matthew started developing chronic ear problems. While visiting the zoo his family noticed he had drainage coming out of his left ear.
The problems lead to several MRI’s and CAT scans to rule out potential causes. Throughout the following year Matthew had three surgeries to help his ear including tube placements (2), an adenoidectomy, and a mastoidectomy of the left ear. Unfortunately, the ear problems persisted, which lead to the placement of a PICC line on several occasions to allow for Intravenous antibiotics.
Once several doctors had a chance to look over Matthew’s progress they found his immune system was suppressed and he was developmentally delayed. At the age of 2 and a half years old, Matthew was diagnosed with autism. Currently Matthew is receiving IVIG at Wolfson’s Children Hospital once a month to help boost his immune system. The treatments have resulted in fewer ear problems, which is now helping him progress developmentally.
