George Barthelmes
“I just started this past fall as a Volunteer Assistant Cross Country Coach for Baldwin High School and one of our athletes is Matthew Taylor who was one of the 55 children that was showcased during the 2011 One to Grow On Ultra Marathon and he is a true inspiration.
In 2011 he finished his first half marathon and in January he completed his second half marathon. If that doesn’t get you motivated to run nothing will. I believe that Ultra Marathon is an absolutely great cause.”
Background
Retired as the Joint Directorate of Intelligence and Domestic Operations Sergeant
- Major of the Florida National Guard in November 2011 after more than 22 years of Active Duty
- Currently semi-retired and work part-time as a Defense Contractor
- Started this past fall serving as a Volunteer Assistant Cross Country Coach for
- Baldwin High School and also plan on assisting with Track and Field as well.
Passions/Interests
- Running, volunteering for various children and military related organizations
- Collecting classic and antique automobiles
- Enjoy Woodworking, landscaping, and gardening
Running Career
- An endurance athlete/runner for the last 5 years
- Before retirement from the National Guard, I was on the National Guard Bureau All Guard Marathon Team
- Have completed 2 Ultra Marathons, 22 marathons, about 10 half marathons and a lot of 15k, 10K, 5k and 3k runs and am a member of the Marathon Maniacs running club
- Have started being a pacer for marathons and just completed my 3rd marathon as a pacer. Typically serve as a 3:15 – 3:25 pacer
- My goals include running a marathon in all 50 states and helping as many people as I can to achieve their running goals
